What is Restrictive Measures?

Restrictive measures, or ‘sanctions’, seek to bring about changes to conducts or policies, such as violations of International Law or human rights, policies that do not follow the rule of law or democratic principles.

The EU has several sanctions regimes in place, some are mandated by the United Nations Security Council, whereas others are adopted autonomously by the EU.
